Exelon Eddystone installs 12 path ZoloBOSS system as part of control system upgrade

BOULDER, Colorado– September 30, 2008 –Exelon Energy has made a significant investment to improve performance at their Eddystone station. The ZoloBOSS laser-based combustion measurement instrument was installed along with an upgraded control system with neural net. The ZoloBOSS data will feed in-situ combustion measurements into the neural net to optimize combustion in way not possible before at this station. Real-time data will be used to control operating parameters such as air-dampers and burner settings.

Corporate Boiler Program Manager, Kavidas Sundara headed up the project which will invest over $2 million into a variety of controls and measurement technologies that will extend the operation of this plant, which started operation in 1960. Mr. Sundara said “the ZoloBOSS is an integral part of this investment, tying together the new controls and optimization software with critical combustion zone data to ensure positive results.” The instrument will have a grid both in the combustion zone as well as in the in back-pass and will compare data between the high pressure and low pressure regions of the furnace.
