Continued NOx Reductions Motivate CPS Energy To Purchase Second ZoloBOSS™ System For JT Deely Unit 2

BOULDER, Colorado– May 15, 2009 –Based on results from their initial installation of the ZoloBOSS combustion measurement system on JT Deely Unit 1, CPS Energy has purchased its second system for sister boiler, JT Deely Unit 2.

Reducing emissions and reducing CO₂ are key priorities for today’s energy providers. Coal-fired power plants are investing in technology that can help them reach these goals in ways they have never been able to do before.

Mechanical Engineering Services Manager and project leader, Mario Sanjuan explains: “For far longer than I can remember, I have looked for an instrument to look into the furnace and observe temperature, CO and O₂. My goal is to use these real-time, uncorrupted signals to balance the combustion process in order to reduce unit heat rate and NOx emissions. The ZoloBOSS provides me that capability.”

Mr. Sanjuan continues: “we have successfully manipulated boiler variables to balance flue gas constituents in the furnace and reduce NO_x emissions. Based on these results and reductions in unit heat rate, we have decided to purchase a second system. We are excited about the potential the ZoloBOSS provides us to help further reduce NOx and reduce heat rate.”
