ZoloEFS™

The ZoloEFS enables jet engines to run better, cleaner, and longer. Zolo Technologies has spent over five years developing this laser-based sensor and provides capabilities that no one else can. The ZoloEFS is actively being developed for on-wing aeropropulsion applications in cooperation with major jet engine manufacturers. With over 7,000 jet engines being built per year, the ZoloEFS will help jet engine manufacturers monitor and tune the next generation of engines, which will be cleaner, quieter, and more efficient.

The ZoloEFS can measure:

  • Temperature
  • H2O
  • CO2
  • O2
  • Pressure

Designed to measure in the combustion zone, the ZoloEFS allows users to observe the temperature directly in front of turbine blades or in the augmentor. High-speed data rates allow monitoring of combustion dynamics, in-situ. These capabilities allow improvements in engine efficiency and component life expectancies.

Some of the benefits the ZoloEFS provides are:

  • Monitor combustion efficiency for optimization
  • Reduce NOx emissions
  • Reduce turbine blade fatigue and wear
  • Monitor combustion dynamics
  • Monitor and diagnose combustion instability
  • Identify and monitor hot spots

ZoloTASS™

The ZoloTASS is a ground test diagnostic system developed with aeropropulsion applications in mind and has been used by the US Air Force, US Navy, and NASA. The ZoloTASS helps jet engine manufacturers develop the next generation of engines, which will be cleaner, quieter, and more efficient.

The ZoloTASS can measure:

  • Temperature
  • H2O
  • CO2
  • O2
  • Unburned fuel (e.g. ethylene, methane) concentration
  • Pollutants such as NO2

Designed to measure at high temperature and pressure, the ZoloTASS creates two dimensional images using proprietary tomographic techniques. A temperature map can be constructed that allows users to observe the temperature field directly in front of turbine blades. Update rates of up to 100 kHz allow diagnosis and monitoring of combustion dynamics, in-situ. With these capabilities, engine changes can be evaluated quickly, reducing development cost, time, and risk.
